Game Design

I plan to obtain a B.S. in Games and Emerging Media. It is an interdisciplinary major combining aspects of computing technology (programming, development), media arts, narrative/storytelling, design, culture.

There are two main tracks/concentrations:

  • Technical Development & Programming — more coding, software development, game engines, etc.
  • Design, Writing & Culture — more focus on story, interactive design, media culture, UI/UX, game ethics, etc.

Hands‑on Course Components such as:

  • A “game studio” course modeled like a studio environment where students work in teams.
  • Capstone course to build a portfolio of game/media work.
  • Electives like 3D Modeling, Animation, Human‑Computer Interaction, Interactive Media.

There is a summer pre‑college program in Game Design, where high school students can earn transferable credit, create games using software, etc. Providing an early opportunity for college credits and to get a feel for the software and equipment that they are likely to use in the future. Plus the Games & Emerging Media program has been ranked among top game design programs in the U.S. by The Princeton Review, yet another reason why it is an amazing school for fellow programmers, designers, and computer nerds.
